7 Months

We believe all of our Collies are special, but every once in a while, one comes around that really shines.  Lexie, a seven month old double merle with no vision and very limited hearing, came to CRGI after her owner’s life circumstances had changed. Despite having these limitations, Lexie is a very curious pup who likes meeting new people and dogs. Her foster mom describes her as playful, inquisitive and friendly. She loves attention, especially when it involves a good back and chest massage.

Lexie cannot be left inside the house unattended and needs to be crated when by herself.  She doesn’t mind being in her crate and will only bark occasionally when she wants attention. Don’t forget that this little girl is a puppy and needs to be kept busy. Having lots of toys available will keep this little chewer entertained.

Lexie needs a patient family that has the time to be there for her and help her get acquainted with her new world, especially when it comes to navigating stairs and encountering new surfaces. She would also greatly benefit from working with a trainer who has experience with special needs dogs.

She can be overly playful at times so a family with older children or no children would be a good fit.  And while she gets along with other animals, Lexie would do well in a home that can focus just on her.
Lexie is different from most of the Collies that come in but her foster mom said it best: “Lexie has a sweet temperament and should develop into a great companion with personalized training that focuses on her special needs.”
